Test the employee experience, including the peripherals.
Define the requirement
Group users by role, application needs and location. Include monitors, printers, scanners, audio devices and specialist hardware. Document how employees authenticate and whether they work from managed corporate devices or personal equipment.
Compare the operating models
Persistent desktops retain individual changes; pooled approaches use a more standardized environment. Compare the operating model against user needs and application support. The desktop platform, infrastructure, licensing and managed service may be separate parts of the proposal.
Make the demonstration prove the fit
Pilot with demanding applications and real peripherals over the connections employees use. Test sign-in time, printing, video calls and access to business data. A desktop that works well inside a data center may feel different on a home or branch connection.
Compare the complete cost
Review desktop licensing, infrastructure consumption, storage, profiles, backup and support. Clarify what is charged per user versus by usage, and what happens during seasonal growth. Confirm eligibility and terms for the application licenses used within the environment.
Plan deployment and ownership
Agree on image updates, patch testing, support boundaries and offboarding. Document what users can still do during a connectivity interruption. Validate recovery of profiles and application data separately from recreating the desktop itself.
