Define the requirement
List every address, suite and operating schedule. Identify the applications affected by latency, upload limits or interruptions. Record current circuit details and contract dates so that a new proposal can be compared against the actual business requirement.
Compare the operating models
Business broadband, dedicated internet and private connectivity serve different needs. SD-WAN controls how traffic uses available connections; it does not create a second physical path by itself. Compare the complete combination of access, equipment, management and support.
Make the demonstration prove the fit
Ask for address qualification and a clear statement of installation dependencies. If resilience matters, ask whether the proposed circuits share a building entrance, route or upstream dependency. A different carrier name alone is not evidence of physical diversity.
Compare the complete cost
Price the circuit, hardware, licensing, management, installation and any construction separately. Review service commitments, repair escalation and contract start dates. Lower monthly cost may come with a different support model or a longer commitment.
Plan deployment and ownership
Test failover while a real voice or application session is active. Confirm which sessions recover automatically and which require reconnection. Record the operating procedure and escalation contacts, then repeat the test after significant network changes.
Questions to take to your shortlist
- Which locations need address qualification?
- What happens to active calls during failover?
- Are installation, inside wiring and managed support included?
